Ask a Neurologist

07.01.2009 - Struggling

Question:

Hey,
I wanted to send an email just looking for help and advice. I’m a 23 year old male who has never been diagnosed with any kind of illness. I have felt for the past few years that I have had some kind of nervous disorder: Anxiety, tremors, nervousness, balance problems, etc. However, due to embarrassment I have never faced this and found it easier to just put it to the back of my mind. Lately things have been getting more stressful and most days would feel like a struggle. I have been running our family business but due to economy difficulties that is coming to an end in the New Year.
I’m becoming increasing concerned about finding a new job as I feel like most people look down on me due to my symptoms.
I’m unsure about what help is available or what I can do to help myself. I have virtual no money or health insurance.
Any advice or help would be great.

Thanks,
Thomas

It is easy to attribute this symptoms to any kind of neurological disease. Because of your age I would advice you to consult a neurologist in your country and ask for a MRI scan of the brain. If this scan is completely normal I can reassure you that you have most probably not a neurological disease. In that case you also can consult a psychiatrist or a psychologist in your country.
